Thursday Afternoon Weekend Event's Update, September 3rd, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Another week has gone and we count down closer to the commencement of the real Events Season. In saying that I notice that the second round of SLEAZE BALL tickets are selling out fast, which means that only final release will be available soon. For those who like thgeir sports hot, I recommend grabbing your ticket/s as soon as you can.

Welcome to Spring although the last 2 weeks have been really too warm, then again... warmer weather gives rise to a different set of fashions, so all is NOT bad after all. - Especially if you have an air-conditioner.

I mentioned last weekend that the Latin American Film Festival is upon us, and it's showing some excellent films indeed. I recommend that you (at the very least) head on over to the MU-MESON ARCHIVES sometime this weekend (and nexct weekend) where the Festival will be having a couple of special screenings specifically tailored for the Mu-Meson set. As far as Film Festivals are concerned, THE SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL has broken out on it's own, this year, and is screening at UTS Ultimo all this weekend. For some of the best professional animated shorts, and secret looks into the world of gaming animation, you can't really go past this small Festival.

I should mention that for those who like some of the darker pursuits of life, reknowned international performance-artist, SATOMI, hits Sydney this weekend to conduct a very intimate performance soiree at BAR MANACLE in Petersham this Friday. Having seen her perform myself, I can only recommend this for those who truly like the restrictive arts.

Of course, if your entertainment leanings are more toward Burlesque, Flappers and Gangsters, perhaps the annual GANGSTER'S BALL will be more to your liking, this year moving from the Gaelic to THE METRO THEATRE in George Street. With a plethora of acts and a strictly enforced 1920s-1940s/Vintage/Burlesque Dress-code, it should keep jeans and T-Shirts right outside and therefore be one of the events of the season. Of course if you like a more intimate event, perhaps THE OCTOPUSES GARDEN PARTY will work for you (and it's a fund-raiser as well).

There are of course the usual weekend events on and the details for those are below.

OK, I think that's my lot. A short-ish intro this week. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

To visually follow Events In Sydney I direct you to our Google Calendar and our Calendar function in our Events_In_Sydney Yahoogroup, so those of you who get the bi-weekly emails, can log in and have a look at that, as all events are displayed there as well (they're all the same events - just in differing formats).

This list is being mirrored on Google Groups, Facebook and MySpace as well. So, if you have a Google, Facebook or MySpace Account - keep an eye out for us there.

This coming weekend there's more than a bit of stuff coming up - so browse through and have a look. For those bands you might be interested in, remember to have a look at Faster Louder for that Independent What's On Listing (which we also supply details to).

Thursday Afternoon Weekend Event's Update, August 27th, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Another week and another set of things to do - which is kind of nice seeing as Spring has decided to come along early this year. last 2 weeks have been really too worm, but then again... warmer weather gives rise to a different set of fashions, so all is NOT bad at all. - Especially if you have an air-conditioner.

Still... there are things on this weekend and I am looking forward to a few of them. Tonight, for example, the AUSTRALIAN CENTRE FOR PHOTOGRAPHY is launching their next exhibition and I am looking forward to heading on up there to see the displayed goods on show.

FIlm festival season is upon us - and just like the Canadian Film Festival, it's nice to see such a great limeup at THE RUSSIAN RESSURECTION FILM FESTIVAL this week, the SOUTH AMERICAN LATIN FILM FESTIVAL coming up in 2 weeks time. Speaking of film festivals, the SYDNEY UNDERGROUND FILM FESTIVAL is ramping up to be very cool in a little over a week, and, for the first time, the SYDNEY INTERNATIONAL ANIMATION FESTIVAL is forging out on it's own with tickets available now, apeaking of tickets available now... SOUNDWAVE 1st release tickets are on sale now... well WERE on sale now... They've mostly gone - payday for me is Saturday, but I am still tossing up whether it is worth my time and money to go all the way out to Eastern Creek and have an event screw up as badly as the last one. Anyone have any suggestions? or should we wait for the sideshows... which will sell out in 11 seconds as well ;).

Still, if you're into her, P!NK is playing her last two shows in Sydney this weekend, although some might want to go and see OUR LAST ENEMY and KINDRED at CLUB BLINK, and don't forget that this weekend also sees the very welcome return of BERSERK, which tips it's stovepipe hat to the Steampunk set. I should also add that this is also the opening weekend of THE COBWEB CLUB as well, so there may be a little moving between venues from BERSERK to THE TAXI CLUB. Still, we'll see.

OK, I think that's my lot. A short-ish intro this week. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Thursday Afternoon Weekend Events Update, March 19th, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

It's been a month (so far) of a lot of things happening and so I have been somewhat lax in my postings... I shall try to get that together for you in the next week or so. Sometimes economic life intrudes (how dare it, I say). There is one thing that is good with real life, though, and that's that people get married - and I have to send out a HUGE congratulations to the GILLIOT (GILL & ELLIOT) for meshing more than their names this Saturday :)

So, let's look at the highlights... Tonight DANDELION WINE is having their album launch at The Excelsior which will throw steampunk into the ambient waves :) Definitely one to hear this evening. That coupled with MZ ANN THROPIK'S SOS Tour launch at Hot Damn1 na dUtopia on Saturday makes for a busy one.

The poster-child for Sydney Fetish Clubs, HELLFIRE, is having their 16th Anniversary this Friday night at The Gaff. 16 years of controlled (but just barely, at times) fetish indulgence is something to be celebrated and celebrated it shall be. With special guest performers and welcoming a new resident DJ (Sveta) into the fold, this will be a celebration to be spoken of in gasps. LOVE & HATRED gears up for an 80's night extravaganza on Saturday night, which will see The Taxi Club go all flouro and will be a night to give any Retro-80's-Gothy club (any club actually) a serious run for their money (not to mention if you're dressed in 80's 'fashion' it's only $5 at the door. of course for a different take on the evening, you may want something a little darker and harder at the opening of another ALT.SAT.FORBES night called NO VITALS.

See? Just a short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Thursday Afternoon Weekend Events Update, March 5th, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Just a quick update before the final Mardi Gras weekend hits us.

It's been a week off - which I like to do every now and again, because I can (which is also why I put these things out in advance... so I can have time off when life, or too many events to see, takes me on a ride). Still, back now - and straining at the bit.

It's the end of the 3 week (it used to be 4-and-a-half weeks but who's supposed to notice?) Mardi Gras Festival, culminating with the yearly parade up Oxford Street this coming Saturday evening at 8pm. The expectation is for about 600,000 people to be there and I seriously recommend that you come along and watch the parade in person, because the only other way is to fork out $25 to Foxtel to be priviledged enought to watch a somewhat sanatised version on Foxtel Main Event. Get to the viewing areas early, as they fill up from about 4pm onwards.

Of course afterwards there are parties to go to - some official and others cashing in on the people left in the city. Me? I'll be heading off to the one and only Goth/Dark/80's/Alternative club on that night, which is also free and out of the central city - ASCENSION (details below) :)

For those going over to WOMADELAIDE this weekend... have a great time (I hear Sa-DingDing is great!) and of course those lucky enough to be seeing the Godfather of Electro (GARY NUMAN) tonight, at The Enmore Theatre, you have my undying envy ;)

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Thursday Afternoon Weekend Events Update, February 12, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Just a quick update before the weekend hits us.

THE RUBY REVUE returns in time for Valentine's Day, so grab your tickets as soon as you can. Also, the Official Launch for the 2009 SYDNEY GAY & LESBIAN MARDI GRAS is at midday on this Sunday at Victoria Park (next to Sydney University). I hope to see you all there (or at DIE MASCHINE the night before) :)

Money raised for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal has topped $40 Million, and still rising. Various support agencies can still use your help, though. All those things that you no longer wear, or use, can be put to use by those who have nothing. Please give generously, and don't forget to donate blood as well.

As far as donating cash is concerned, remember to ONLY donate through the official channels and not to bogus collectors, or through bogus emails. Only donate online if you know that theplace you are donating to is genuine, and NEVER reply to unsolicited emails.

If you're wondering on how to donate, here's an idea I floated earlier in the week... Pick an event you might not go to normally. Then, donate the money you would have spent that night to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal Fund. Either follow that link through the Red Cross site, or drop into any National Australia Bank branch and ask to donate it.

Remember, pick an event and don't attend, donating the money instead (don't worry, there'll be more events on later in the week/end).

As you know, we're deep into the Movie Awards Season, now, and SYDNEY SCREENING is still organising attendances to Pre-Awards Oscar Nominated Film Screenings at the moment. Keep an eye out for the continuing schedule (they're announcing them on LiveJournal, and Facebook). That way you get to see the films and have an idea if the Academy is on the ball or not at the end of this month.

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Monday Afternoon Weekly Events Update, February 9, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Last weekend Australia lost a town - in fact we lost a few towns, which were razed off the surface of the planet in an event worse than the Ash Wedneday fires. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected, and our admiration goes out to the Fire-fighters and volunteers who have done (and continue to do) an incredible job in fighting the fires. With 108+ dead and 750 homes destroyed in this tragedy, I think I will recommend something for everyone to do this week. Pick an event you would like to go to, then stay at home instead.

Friday Morning Weekend Events Update, February 6, 2009
Good Morning, Folks!

Back from a week off - well a half-week anyway. Many events seen, parades attended, movies watched, but apart from that I managed to get some sleep and that is always a nice thing to attempt.

Big Congratulations to BERSERK on their triumphant return, last weekend. I am very much looking forward to the next one which should be in the next 3-4 months (I predict - May).

SHALLOW NATION has moved from Saturday nights to Friday night (their first night of their move is *tonight* at Tailors-On-Central), so pop in and revel in the Biohazard Greeness of their dark Industrial/Electro heartbeat.

The Mardi Gras Season is launching today with the opening of the QUEENS OF THE CROSS exhibition at The Kings Cross Library (for the next 4 weeks) pop on in and have a look. It'll take some of you back to the days when the Cross was a hotbed of sleazy burlesque... er... yes and will show what part the Drag-Performance community played in keeping the glitz and glam in (what was) Sydney's bohemian centre. Also, watch next weekend for the Official Launch of the Mardi Gras festival.

As you know, we're deep into the Movie Awards Season, now, and SYDNEY SCREENING is organising attendances to Pre-Awards Oscar Nominated Film Screenings at the moment. Keep an eye out for the continuing schedule (they're announcing them on LiveJournal, and Facebook). That way you get to see the films and have an idea if the Academy is on the ball or not at the end of this month. Of course Monday is the BRITISH ACADEMY (BAFTA) AWARDS, which is the last major Awards Show before the Oscars on Feb 23.

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Thursday Afternoon Weekend Events Update, January 29, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Can you believe that it is the end of the month, and hence the end of the Sydney Festival, already?! The signature show of the Festival, MORPHOSES is finishing up in 3 days, so you have that long to go and see it. This is your last chance to wander about and see all the exhibits and shows that the Festival brought to the table, so grab your Festival Guide and check out these final four days.

Just a reminder... there won't be an update next week due to a very heavy work and Pre-Oscars Screening schedule. However, we'l be back the week after - oscars already???? Where did last month go? Seriously, is it just me, or is time speeding up?

BERSERK returns with a vengeance to THE BURDEKIN HOTEL on Oxford Street, on Saturday night, and with the heat up turned up, the Uniform theme will really go over well - and use your imagination for that one. If you go to only one club this weekend, the return of BERSERK is the choice I'd make. Chinese New Year also continues on this weekend with THE TWILIGHT PARADE in Dixon Street, this Sunday evening.

We're into the Awards Season, now, and SYDNEY SCREENING is organising attendances to Pre-Awards Oscar Nominated Film Screenings at the moment with the first one being last night. Keep an eye out for the schedule (they're announcing them on LiveJournal, and Facebook).

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Please note that some events are VERY much in advance and can be affected by closures, raids, organiser rebookings, weather, etc... Keep an eye on the site-links for up-to-the-minute details.

Prices are listed as Full/Concession.

Tuesday Afternoon Weekly Events Update, January 27th, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Well, it's been Australia Day (again) and from the 45 degree furnace that was Sydney Showground, during Big Day Out, through to the 30+ degree rest of the long weekend, with Ferry Races amd Race Riots (in Manly!) we are now into the final week of the SYDNEY FESTIVAL with all of the free things now pretty much over. It's been quite good, but I did seem to miss some of the free events due to weather (both sweltering and wet). However, overall it was very good.

As I mentioned last week, SOUNDWAVE 2009 will be held at EASTERN CREEK RACEWAY. It's kind of funny because many tickets have gone up on eBay because of this change of venue - perhaps (if this is to be a permanent change) there will be a development of facilities out that area. I'll be watching to see what sort of crowd behaviour there will be. I expect the worst, but will be happy to be proven wrong.

As you know, we are into the Awards Season, now, with the Screen Actor's Guild Awards being announced last night. SYDNEY SCREENING has already announced their schedule for Pre-Oscars Screenings for this year and it seems to be a filma day (at the least). Also, we are now approaching Mardi Gras Season, and this year it seems to be shorter with the Official Launch taking place during Fair Day in the second week of February. Is there something going on that they're not announcing?

OK, I think that's my lot. Not a very short intro this week. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

To visually follow Events In Sydney I direct you to our Google Calendar and, there is a Calendar function in our Events_In_Sydney Yahoogroup, so those of you who get the bi-weekly emails, can log in and have a look at that, as all events are displayed there as well (they're all the same events - just in differing formats).

Just a reminder that Events In Sydney has a Facebook Group which you can find by following this link. This list is being mirrored on Google Groups and we have a MySpace as well. So, if you have a Faceboobk, Google or MySpace Account - keep an eye out for us there.

That seems to be everything I have to rabbit on about, for the moment, so let's get on with the listing, shall we?.... This coming week there's more than a bit of stuff coming up - so browse through and have a look. For those bands you might be interested in, have a look at Faster Louder for that Independent What's On Listing (which we also supply details to).

Thursday Morning Weekend Events Update, January 22, 2009
Good Morning, Folks!

Ahhh! Big Day Out tomorrow. Who else is coming along?? Prodigy? Neil Young? Anyone?

Welcome to the 3rd week of the SYDNEY FESTIVAL with all of the free things seriously hitting their stride. You know, the nice thing about the Sydney Festival (these days) is the amount of things for the public, not just for the art-elite. Saying that, This week are a number of free events (at least as big as last weekend's Jazz In The Domain). This weekend THE SYDNEY SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA performs SYMPHONY UNDER THE STARS (I still use the old name) and of course, many more paid events such as theatre, THE SPIEGLETENT, music arts and displays all over the city from Parramatta through to the CBD. It's all so very good. I should also not go past that BIG DAY OUT is on this Friday (yes... Friday) in case you'd forgotten, highlighting the talents of Neil Young. There will be MANY people there... and remember - there WILL be sniffer dogs at the entrance and (this year) potentially in the crowds.

Chinese New Year launches tomorrow night at Belmore Park (the one next to Central Station) so pop on by, soak up the Chinese Markets (there for only the first 3 days) and see the launch festivities. Oh yes - there's also a little thing happening next Monday called AUSTRALIA DAY - Public Holiday, Ferry Races, Concerts, Fireworks - it'll be a day with a Tuesday morning hangover I am sure.

We're into the Awards Season, now, with the Screen Actor's Guild Awards coming up in a week's time. Of course I'll be waiting for the Oscar nominations tomorrow morning at Half-past midnight, and then rushing about trying to see as many of the films as I can before the Awards are announced one month later at the end of Feb - look for SYDNEY SCREENING to be organising attendances to the Pre-Awards Screenings (they'll announce them on LiveJournal, and Facebook I am sure).

Monday Afternoon Weekly Events Update, January 19, 2009

Oh yes - there's also a little thing happening next Monday called AUSTRALIA DAY - Public Holiday, Ferry Races, Concerts, Fireworks - it'll be a day with a Tuesday morning hangover I am sure.

They've just announced that SOUNDWAVE 2009 will be held at EASTERN CREEK RACEWAY. That's lovely for those who live there, and those who drive. The venue means that there will be a slump in drink sales, and I have bad memories of Guns & Roses out there. It's a bad venue, and it will not be good for the event. At least this means that I will save money in not going.

Well, Flickerfest is over for another year, and this year there were a great many excellent short films in competition. The International films were (as always) excellent - does anyone know why the Nertherlands/Denmark have so many very good short films? Also, for once, Australian short films were very VERY good this year (overall) mostly they're a bit hit-and-miss. Next year, I recommend you get a season pass and spend the week at Bondi Beach watching quality National and International short films.

We're into the Awards Season, now, with the Screen Actor's Guild Awards coming up in a week's time. Of course I'll be waiting for the Oscar nominations this Friday morning at Half-past midnight, and then rushing about trying to see as many of the films as I can before the Awards are announced one month later at the end of Feb - look for SYDNEY SCREENING to be organising attendances to the Pre-Awards Screenings (they'll announce them on LiveJournal, and Facebook I am sure).

Friday Afternoon Weekend Events Update, January 16, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Again, email=epic fail, so it's a Friday list as opposed to a Thursday list ;) Note: I have left some Thursday items on the list, because they started yesterday.

It's the January return of HELLFIRE tonight... so pop on along and say an early Happy Birthday to Master Tom (his is tomorrow night) :) This weekend also sees the first night (with a lot of competition mind you) for ALT.SAT.FORBES: NIGHT CREATURES. If you're in the area it may well be worth popping on in and seeing what it's like. Also, remember that this weekend sees the culmination of FLICKERFEST 2009 - it's been a great run and some really excellent short films this year as well :)

Also, we are coming to the end of the 2nd week of the SYDNEY FESTIVAL with all of the free things really hitting their stride. You know, the nice thing about the Sydney Festival (these days) is the amount of things for the public, not just for the art-elite. Saying that, This week are a number of free events (not as big as last Saturday's Mega-Dance-Party in the CBD - that was insanely good!). Free movies with live soundtracks at Darling Harbour, The Gypsy Kings joining the JAZZ IN THE DOMAIN set, many more paid events such as theatre, THE SPIEGLETENT, music arts and displays all over the city from Parramatta through to the CBD. It's all good. Actually it's so good, I should just let the list speak for itself this weekend.

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Monday Afternoon Weekly Events Update, January 12, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

We're entering into the Awards Season, one of my favourite times of the year, with the Golden Globe Awards coming up tonight (well, today if you're in the US, but I'm not looking anywhere that I might see anything). Yes folks, it's envelope passing time, and the speculation as to who will make it to the Oscars nominations, and whom will finally win one of those heavy gilded men is all over the movie-trade websites and publications. Of course I'll be waiting for the nominations on Jan 23rd, and then rushing about trying to see as many of the films as I can before the Awards are announced one month later at the end of Feb - look for SYDNEY SCREENING to be organising attendances to the Pre-Awards Screenings.

Thursday Morning Weekend Events Update, January 8, 2009
Good Morning, Folks!!!

A short intro, because it's the lull before the storm which is the Festival Season and Awards season. Yes, today is the last day for a couple of months where we'll have so many things to go and see/do, that we won't have enough hours in the day OR enough monies in the payslip.

A quick correction from Monday, as THE SUNDAY SCREENING ROOM doesn't start until 3 weeks time. I could explain how there are 2 nights per month with differing names, but that might get confusing. Suffice to say that the last Sunday of the month (this month) is the first Public-Domain Noir Film Evening at THE FOREST LODGE HOTEL. Clear? Good. :)

Tomorrow sees the commencement of THE SYDNEY FESTIVAL 2009 with all that this entails. The FESTIVAL FIRST NIGHT is on Saturday with a free party starring the likes of the crew from FUZZY, THE CAT EMPIRE, GRACE JONES, and a bucketload of performers and musicians - and did I mention that it's free? Also, tomorrow night is the start of the yearly outdoor film festival brilliance which is FLICKERFEST 2009. It started in Balmain 17 years ago, and I have only ever missed one (I originally went because the company I was working for was thinking of sponsoring it, but kept going because the entries and the atmosphere were great). It now spans countries, tours Australia and is Australia's only (Outdoor) Short Film Festival which has the nomination accreditation of the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences (yes, The Oscars). I'll be there for the next 9 days/evenings soaking in the balmy evenings, watching world-class short films, and... beathing in crashing sea-breezes... does it get ANY better that this? I think not.

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Monday Afternoon New Year's Weekly Events Update, January 5, 2009
Good Afternoon, Folks!

Welcome back to the listing of STUFF on which to spend your money this year :)

I hope that you all had a safe and happy New Year's Celebration and that you made all the resolutions fit to break :) I know I did ;) Still, there will be much to see and do starting this weekend through January as THE FESTIVAL OF SYDNEY takes off. This year it's VIVACITY09, and there is a LOT to do around all areas of the city, from the Harbour through past Parramatta.

Take a look at what has started (things like HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL LIVE!) and starting (LE GRAND CIRQUE) this week. Theatre and musical entertainment will be out on force this month, along with free events down at Darling Harbour (such as live musical scores to well known films), Free outdoor concerts in The Domain, and by iconic international artists such as GRACE JONES. Of course, my yearly sojourn into film starts this weekend with the opening night of FLICKERFEST 2009 (the outdoor short film festival, held at Bondi every year).

All the old favourites are also back this year, with a few additions to the fold, such as SWITCHBLADE SISTER ANTI-SOCIAL CLUB at Club 77. Not to mention a weekly Saturday night on at The Forbes Hotel, called ALT.SAT.FORBES which has a different theme every week, repeated monthly (which means that the competition gauntlet has been thrown down to all the other nights). Weekends are obviously about to get a lot busier with the choices of what to do flying thick and fast.

Also, we're about to enter into the Awards Season, with the Golden Globe Awards coming up next week. It's envelope passing time, and the speculation as to who will make it to the Oscars nominations, and whom will finally win one of those heavy gilded men is all over the movie-trade websites and publications. (Early) New Year's Eve Weekend Events Update, December 31, 2008
An (early) Happy New Year to you all, Folks!!!

Yes yes I KNOW it's Wednesday, it's New Year's Eve, - but if you're anything like I am, you'll understand me putting this out today instead of wondering why I can't find the laptop tomorrow ;). It's the final hours of 2008, and it's all time to hit the reset button, OK? :) Everything from 2008 is now just so last year. So, we have the task ahead of us to make 2009 even better :) - and dammit we will.

For all those heading out to Sydney Harbour to see the Fireworks tonight - they have a treat in store as there are some new effects which have not been used in ths country before - so keep your eyes peeled. Those going to various parties - be safe, especially on balcomies. Also, those heading to clubs, play safe and play sane OK? It's New Year and we all get a little crazy with that time of year. Look after your friends, and if in doubt... don't.

So, what do wo have in store for 2009? Well, right now we have people heading into the city for NYE craziness. We have THE SYDNEY FESTIVAL getting ready to hit it's stride in a few days (it starts a week late these days, don't ask me why), FLICKERFEST starting next week/end, the first clubs of the year (especially ASCENSION) this coming Saturday night. All in all, I think 2009 will be a VERY good one for many people :)

Also, I have to thank people like Melanie, Natalie, the Hellfire Crew, the Under The Blue Moon organisers, all the club organisers who have been more than herlpful this year, and you guys for reading this drivel I put out (on average) twice a week. Without you all, I wouldn't be heading into my 10th year in doing this list. Have a safe and happy NYE, and start to the New Year and I'll see you all around the traps ;).

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Monday Afternoon Weekly Events Update, December 29, 2008
Good Afternoon, Folks!

With all the final events for 2008 hitting into the calendar now, I need to plug one more for some friends in Melbourne, and an event I would be attending if I were there. Melbourne is hosting a rather large Neo-Victorian/Steampunk event on New Year's Eve, called EUCHRONIA. It promises to be a huge night, and one which I wish I could get to. However, I shall have to live it vicariously through my Melbourne friends (and those travelling down from here to there). The Euchronia NYE details are below.

Sorry, but I haven't received an update from a few places for the January season of holiday event madness, so as soon as I do, I'll update for you.

I'll be out and about this week (NYE and all) and I'll see many of you at a number of New Year's Eve events I am sure. If not - pop on down to the Annandale Hotel this evening to see the Kitschy-goodness of KISS Vs The Phantom Of The Park at 7:30. It is sure to be the pre-New Year's howler that I remember it to be.

OK, I think that's my lot. Just a very short intro this week.

Monday Afternoon Weekly Events Update, December 22, 2008
Good Afternoon, Folks!

It's still counting down the final days of 2008, and the4 last few days before the jolly large man invades our homes again.

I know it's Xmas, and the boys in NORAD (the old Straegic Air Command in the US) will be tracking Santa on his yearly journey in a couple of days time - I kid you not. There's a website and all ;)

With all the final events hitting into the calendar now, I need to add one more - which is not in Sydney. However, I shall have to live it vicariously through my melbourne friends. Euchronia details are below.

So, this is the time when I say Merry Xmas to you all :) I hope that Santa brings all you deserve and more. Play safe this holiday season, and I'll 'see' you when I post again on Xmas Day.

Thursday Morning Weekend Events Update, December 18, 2008
Good Morning, Folks

It's the weekend - and only a few more days until the rotund red-clad home-invader comes into your house and leave you pressies or a lump of coal. Yes folks, next week is the end the the Xmas season and the weekend after is the end of the year - another one down... Just make sure you wander out and see as much of the Sydney festival as you can. Also FLICKERFEST tickets are now onsale - so get your season passes asap.

Also, this week sees the real start of the Xmas Celebration madness, with BLACK CHERRY, and HELLFIRE both celebrating the yuletide spirit (HELLFIRE once again gracing us with an international presence of performer par-excellence, Satomi). So whether your tastes are more to retro-Gothabilly, or perhaps looking for mistletoe in all the 'wrong' places, there's something there for most tastes this Friday night. Of course for the more traditional people, there is CAROLS IN THE DOMAIN on Saturday night, along with a Xmas serving of Doctors & Nurses at LOVE & HATRED.

See? Just a very short intro this weekend. So, let's just get on with the process of putting this list out :)

Monday Afternoon Weekly Events Update, December 15, 2008
Good Afternoon, Folks!

It's stilll counting down the final days of 2008. Weirdly enough I have little to add apart from perhaps a little note about the types of tickets one can buy for shows at 'arena-style' venues.

Whilst there are different styles of tickets for arena-venues (Syd Entertainment Centre & Acer Arena), I find that (at times) their designation of just what should be called a 'Gold' ticket, etc... is somewhat misleading. Having been to 2 shows in the past month which I have had 'Gold' tickets to, I was somewhat disappointed with exactly where these tickets were. I must admit that having a direct view of the stage is a plus, but when they direct view means that you need binoculars to make out the details of what is happening live in front of you, I would hesitate to actually call those tickets 'Gold'. Perhaps Silver (at a stretch) or Bronze definitely. I think that the way promoters have gotten around this is by inventing the new Platinum and Diamond categories. Better that the 'Gold' gategory and more expensive (although being at the back of the Platinum seating is about 1-2 metres better than being in Gold Class. I know, that VIP seats (with the whole shebang of dinner and front 10 rows is a seperate package and all, but when you say Gold, you envisage the standard which all currency is measured againt. Not a third-rate substitute. Putting Gold Class seats back down toward the stage (where they used to be) is a move long overdue, and make them worth the name that is attached to them.

As an aside now... I did go and see KYLIE last night and I fully recommend that show as an exercise in stage-spectacle. It's not KISS, but for those who love the elder Minogue, and/or want a trashy fairy-floss styled night, full of showbiz, enjoyment and pizazz, you can't go much past Kylie.

Also, this week sees the real start of the Xmas Celebration madness, with BLACK CHERRY, and HELLFIRE both celebrating the yuletide spirit. So whether your tastes are more to retro-Gothabilly, or perhaps looking for mistletoe in all the 'wrong' places, there's something there for most tastes this Friday night.
